UT News Service | IMPHAL, AUG 11: Manipur Education minister Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam chaired a meeting on Tuesday to review the work progress for constituting a task force and to decide further course of action for fully comprehending the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and to implement the policy.  The meeting was held at the Conference Hall, Samagra Shiksha, Babupara in Imphal.

At the outset of the meeting, Commissioner, Higher. & Technical Education/SCERT, M. Harekrishna apprised the minister on the tentative list of persons to be nominated as members of the task force in respect of the Higher & Technical Education Department and SCERT. Commissioner, Education-S and Adult Education, T. Ranjit Singh also expressed that creation of the task force for the State is the most important step for expediting implementation of National Education Policy, 2020.

The task force will constitute 25 – 30 members drawn from experts, educationists, educational enthusiasts, social workers, prominent individuals in the field of sports, art & culture, dance, among others and should consists of representatives nominated by SCERT, Department of Education-S, Department of Higher & Technical Education, BoSEM, CoHSEM and also representatives or nominees of Departments of Health, Social Welfare and TA & Hills.

During the meet, Dr. Th. Radheshyam instructed the officials present to organise a Consultative Meeting with representatives of Central Institutions imparting Higher Education and Principals of affiliated Colleges of DM University. He also opined that a meeting for all the Zonal Education Officers and Principals of Higher Secondary Education at a different schedule is necessary. He also directed the officials to prepare proposals for conducting seminars, webinars and discussions on National Education Policy, 2020.

Emphasising on the need for thorough understanding of the policy the Minister asked the officials to distribute the booklets on National Education Policy, 2020 to as many stakeholders as possible and obtain feedback and suggestions.

The meeting was attended by the Director Education (S) L. Nandakumar Singh; Chairman COHSEM, L. Mahendra Singh, Joint Secretary Higher & Technical Education, Dr. L. Nivedita, Additional Director, Education (S) Hills, Lerte Hmangte Kom, Additional Director, Education (S) Valley, Ch Sachi Devi, and the officials concerned of the department.
