UKHRUL: Four people, including three women, were killed while several others injured after a pick-up van carrying wedding guests plunged into a gorge in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Tuesday (January 6), police said.

The accident occurred around noon near the remote Ngaljang village in the Singngat sub-division when the vehicle, carrying around 30 to 40 passengers, failed to negotiate a sharp turn on a hilly road and fell into a deep gorge. The vehicle had been hired to ferry guests attending a wedding.

Police said the driver lost control of the van, which rolled several times down the steep hillside before coming to a halt in a field below. The deceased were identified as Thangmuanmung Khuptong, Hauchiin, Chingngaihsiam, and Niangzaniang.
