Manipur govt employees join nationwide ‘Parliament Dharna’

Imphal: Employees of various departments under the Manipur government on Tuesday staged sit-in-protests in their respective office premises while joining the nationwide “Parliament Dharna”.

The dharna was called by All India State Government Employees’ Federation and Confederation of Central Government Employees & Workers.

In Manipur, the employees staged the protest under the aegis of the Manipur Government Services’ Federation (MGSF).

During the protests, the employees highlighted the seven-point demands raised by the All India State Government Employees’ Federation and Confederation of Central Government Employees & Workers.

The demands are – Annul the NPS. Restore the OPS, regularization of all the contact/outsource/daily waged employees, constitution of 8th Central Pay Commission, filling up vacancies in the Central and states governments and PSUs, release of all DA/DR including confiscated arrears, removal of all riders and restrictions on compassionate employment and to ensure democratic trade union rights.

Joining the nationwide protest dharna, employees of Manipur Secretariat also staged a sit-in-protest inside the state secretariat complex under the aegis of MGSF.

The placards displayed during the protest read as “Pay Central DA w.e.f January 2023 as assured” , “Release all DA/DR including confiscated arrears”, “Scrap NPS – restore OPS,” etc.

At the concluding part of the protest, a memorandum was submitted to the chief minister. The memorandum highlighted the seven-point demand and insisted on fulfilling the demands immediately.

Similar sit-in-protests were also staged at various levels, according to the leaders of the MGSF who attended today’s protest programme.
