Manipur Health Mission director expresses concern on low COVID-19 vaccination rate in Manipur

Imphal: Delta variant combined with Omicron varian, a new chapter in COVID-19 pandemic, said State Mission Director W Shyamjai Singh of National Health Mission on Sunday.

Shyamjair was talking to reporters on the sideline of his inspection of COVID-19 vaccination in Bishnupur district using COVID-19 express.

He urged the people to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 while claiming that the vaccine can protect from the Delta variant and experts in the field are doing research on the vaccine to protect from the new variant, Omicron.

He said that there may come up a serious phase when the Delta variant combined with omicron. So, there is the need for taking utmost care.

“Do vaccinate. There is no other option than vaccination to protect from the pandemic,” he said.

The director expressed concern while observing a low vaccination rate in the state.

For the country the vaccination rate has reached 49%. However, for the state, it is only 46%, he said.
