Ukhrul: The National Sports University (NSU) in Imphal, Manipur, Wednesday issued a corrigendum apologising for what it said was a “mistake in the system” over assigning of caste categories in their eligible and non-eligible applicants for Admissions 2024-25 notification, for at least 11 applicants in the Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) program.

“A list of eligible and non-eligible applicants for NSU Admissions 2024-25 was uploaded on the University website on 1st July 2024. Due to a mistake in our system, some students were assigned to caste categories different from those they had applied for. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Below is a list of applicants for the Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) program, including their corrected caste categories,” clarified the Register of National Sports University, Imphal, Manipur.

The “mistake in the system” sparked debate in social media while it invited high pitched criticism from the tribal communities of Manipur. The National Sports University (NSU) in Imphal, Manipur is a Central University under the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

It is worth noting that reservations policy are implemented in educational institutions, government jobs, and in the political sphere to ensure adequate representation and opportunities for marginalized communities in the State, as the system provides social and educational upliftment. The reservation policy in Manipur includes provisions for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
