Manipur Police CDOs in 4 valley Dists launch Gun-Down Protest over Attack at ASP M Amit’s Residence

Imphal: In an unprecedented development in a State roiled in violence over the last 10 months, Imphal West Police Commando Personnel began Gun-Down protest on Wednesday in connection with the firing attack carried out by armed miscreants, suspected to be the Arambai Tenggol at the residence of Imphal West District Additional SP (Operations) Amit Moirangthem in Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai Tuesday evening.

Commando Personnel of Thoubal District, Kakching District and Bishnupur District also joined the Gun-Down protest. The commandos condemned that their hands were tied while they should have been allowed to retaliate the miscreants.

The Commando personnel termed the attack as unreasonable and expressed disappointment that the Government has failed to take proper action against the perpetrators. The Police Commandos said they have to abide by certain rules and regulations being members of a disciplined force, hence relevant authorities should give order for necessary action against the perpetrators.

As per Police, two individuals namely Rabinash Moirangthem, 24, son of M. Ranjan of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai and Kangujam Bhimsen, 20, of K. Abosana of Khongman Bashikhong sustained injuries and were admitted to JNIMS Hospital, Porompat on Tuesday night.

Reportedly, the protesting Police Commandos held talks with top officers of Manipur Police including DIG at Imphal West Commando Head Quarter. But further details are awaited while filing this report.

According to Manipur Police, on “Tuesday evening armed miscreants numbering about 200 coming in vehicles stormed at the residence of the Additional Superintendent of Police, Moirangthem Amit Singh, MPS, S/o Dr. M. Kulla Singh of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai, under Porompat PS of Imphal East district on Tuesday evening around 6.20. The armed miscreants vandalized the household properties at the residence. On getting information, additional security forces rushed to the spot. In the resulting police action, two individuals namely Rabinash Moirangthem, 24 yrs s/o M. Ranjan of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai and Kangujam Bhimsen, 20 yrs c/o K. Abosana of Khongman Bashikhong sustained injuries and they were admitted to JNIMS Hospital, Porompat. In the midst of the incident, the Addl SP and one of his escorts were abducted by the armed miscreants. They were later rescued from Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai area and admitted to Raj Medicity for treatment. Manipur Police has registered a case this regard and investigation has started.”
