Manipur: Prominent Meira Paibi leader Ema Longjam Memchoubi passes away at 83


Imphal: Prominent Meira Paibi leader of Manipur state, Longjam Memchoubi passed away at Shija Hospital, Langol on Sunday owing to illness. She was 83.

Longjam Memchoubi passed away at the hospital due to organ failure on Sunday evening around 5 pm.

Wife of late Longjam Lukumar, she was fondly called Ema Memchoubi when she served as president of Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Khuyathong Thangmeiband Polen Leikai.

Her last rites is held at Ima Kombi memorial site at Lamphel today.

Chief minister N Biren Singh took to X, saying he is pained by the sudden demise of activist Longjam Memchoubi.

“Manipur has lost a leader who was at the forefront of many political and social movements. She also took part in voicing the current crisis and remained a true patriot until her last breath. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and followers. May her soul rest in peace.,” N Biren wrote.
