Manipur: Somirin Alice Rungsung win gold at cadet national fencing championship

Ukhrul, Dec 29: Somirin Alice Rungsung who clinched gold medal in the 17th (U-18) Cadet National Fencing Championship 2022 held from December 11 till 13 at Nashik, Maharashtra was felicitated on December 29 by Leisan Shang (Clan) and Leisan Yorla (Society).

The 17-year-old, daughter of Ngashanpam Rungsung from Lamlang Village, Ukhrul district is pursuing her Xll at Model Higher Secondary School, Imphal West.

Somirin Alice is currently training in SAI Takyel, Imphal West. To her credit, Somirin is a bronze medalist from Ukhrul district at the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games held from August 26-30, 2022.

She has also won a foil team event gold medal at the 30th Junior (U-20) National Fencing Championship in July 2022, held at Cuttack Odisha.

The 17-year-old from Manipur’s Ukhrul district will represent the state in the Khelo India U-21 in the month of January/February 2023. She is also planning to participate in the National Fencing Championship during mid-January 2023 in Haryana.
