Senapati: The Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) has officially announced to start the ever first state level Manipur State Indigenous Wrestling Championship, 2022 to begin from November 23. The event is organised in association with Sangai Festival 2022, sponsored by the state government.
Addressing media persons in its office, R.K. Gideon, general secretary, SDWAM said that entry forms have already commenced from October 17 at SDWAM office at the cost of Rs. 1000 and the last date of submission of forms will be November 17, 2022.

The four days event that will continue till November 26 would be held at Mini Stadium, Senapati District headquarters. The championship will be hosted by Makhrelui villages, Senapati. Report mentioned that there will be two different categories of Heavy weight for 65 kg and above and Light weight for below 65 kg.
Winners of both categories would be awarded with Rs. 1 lakh (First prize), Rs. 70,000 (Second prize), Rs. 50,000 (Third prize) and Rs. 30,000 (Fourth prize) respectively with certificates. Four consolation prizes of Rs. 5,000 each for both categories is also reported to follow. Division of categories and oath taking is slated for November 21 and fixtures of the players to be given on November 22 next.

Mention may be made that the previous open wrestling competition held in 2018 witnessed with nearly 200 wrestlers in two different categories of light weight and heavy weight with wrestlers from Nagaland.
The rrganisers also mentioned that although the event would be a state level, it is expected that more than 200 wrestlers may take part in the coming Manipur State Indigenous Wrestling Championship, 2022 representing different districts of the state scheduled for November 23.
Manipur state chief minister N. Biren Singh is likely to grace the inaugural session as the chief guest.
