Ukhrul: Member of Parliament Lorho S. Pfoze said today that he met with the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) located at Litan Sareikhong Kuki Village under Ukhrul District and interacted with the inmates on his way from Imphal to Ukhrul District to attend the 30th Naga Students’ Federation General Conference being held in Ukhrul headquarters.

Lorho S. Pfoze, Naga People’s Front (NPF) Member of Parliament from the Outer Manipur constituency, stated that this was his first visit to relief camps.

“There are more than 300 people living in three relief camps. At one point of time I was told more than 1200 were living there. Most of the inmates living in these camps today are women and children in difficult situation. Their living conditions are not good. Their main complaint is food as they are unable to get proper ration. Water and medicines are also a problem,” Lorho S. Pfoze said.

“It is important that relief materials reach them. I think there are some problem in transportation of relief materials from Imphal. I only hope that these relief materials are humanitarian services that we need to give. Whether Meiteis or kukis, we must understand their need and must allow transpiration of the supplies to go back and forth. Only then women and children who are suffering, especially those who are sick, who are suffering, need urgent attention. There were four village chiefs, churches and elders were involved in helping with the relief materials. However, churches have very limited resources. They are not able to get help from neighbouring communities which is where the people should be sensitive. If some help can go [from the neighbouring communities], it will be good,” the MP added.

Reacting to his visit to Sareikhong Kuki Village, the MP said, “I was very touched by seeing those people suffering, asking me to come back again. There is hunger for tender care and tender compassion approach. We as Christians must do it,” he said.

Upon asking on what measures have been put up in order to address the issues facing the relief camps, Lorho S. Pfoze responded, “I have spoken to the district authorities and administration, the PHDs, Medical department and supply officers to send someone as early as possible,” while adding that he had offered help in his today’s visit to the Kuki village.
