Manipur’s COVID-19 infection count rose to 23,018 with the detection of 270 fresh cases during the testing of 2,585 samples, officials said.

With one more death, the fatality number due to COVID-19 related illnesses in the state also rose to 233 on Saturday.

Of the 270 fresh cases of the disease detected during the last 24 hours, 41 were personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and 25 among the general population were from two Assembly constituencies that went to by-polls on November 7 last.

The state Health department is on a targeted testing drive in three of the four Assembly constituencies where by-polls were conducted amid the worst time of pandemic.
The department is collecting samples of one member of each household of these constituencies for COVID-19 testing.

The 25 fresh cases were detected during testing of one member each of 273 households of the two assembly constituencies- Wangoi and Wangjing-Tentha.

The targeted testing commenced from November 18 last and it has so far covered several households, out of which 158 were found positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, as per a press release of the COVID-19 Common Control Room, out of the total 23,018 infections, 19,813 are recovered cases and 2,972 are active cases.
The recovery rate stands at 86.07% in the state.
