Margaret L Valui, First Tangkhul Woman Ordained as Minister

Ukhrul: Margaret L Valui became the first woman among the Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association to be ordained as a Minister. She was ordained on September 14, 2016 at South Wayne Baptist Church and the TBCA officially recognised the ordination on Friday at Teinem Baptist Church. Margaret L Valui is the wife of Rev. Dr. Wungreiso Valui of Teinem village, Senior Pastor, Santa Clara First Baptist Church, California, USA.

Rev. Dr. Margaret L Valui on the day of her ordinaton said, “We became a messenger of Christ for 20 years and it is only possible because of the grace of God. What I learnt is that we may start small but much bigger plan awaits us. As I continue to work, God has paved the way for me, and led me thus far. Everyone of us has been called upon for a purpose, and we must work for it. Forget about what other people think, we are called to be faithful and fruitful.”

Expressing her gratitude to her three children Rev. Dr. Margaret said her children encouraged her and gave her the strength to pursue and engaged as a pastor.

Presently, Rev. Dr. Margaret L Valui is the Pastor of Family Life and Discipleship at Santa Clara First Baptist Church, California, USA and is also one of the Teaching Faculty at Berkeley School of Theology, California USA.

Rev. Dr. Margaret L Valui did her Doctor in Ministry (D.Min) from Berkeley School of Theology, Master in Youth Ministry (MA) from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Licensed Teacher (T2T, MA) from Indiana University -Purdue University Fort Wayne, Master in Sociology (MA) from Delhi School of Economics and Bachelor in Sociology (BA) from Miranda College, University of Delhi.

Jonah M. Solo, Chairman, TBCA Ordination Committee said, TBCA and American Baptist Churches and Mission permits ordination of women according to the practice and principles. “Margaret L Valui was ordained in USA and today, the TBCA has recognised the ordination of Rev. Dr. Margaret L Valui given by South Wayne Baptist Church. She is the first women to be ordained as Minister among the Tangkhul.

Around 30 ordained Minister of TBCA who attended the progranme prayed for Rev. Dr. Margaret L Valui.

Executive Secretary of TBCA, Rev. Dr. Mathotmi Vasha read out the declaration of recognition of ordination to the congregation and handed over the certificate her. The Council of TBCA in its meeting held on November 3, 2023, resolved to recognise her ordination.

The display of folk dance by Teinem Katamnao Long, the performances by Somayo Rumthao, Chungsangla Jajo and Thotsemphi Luithui added more colour to the programme.
