Shillong: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma announced plans to raise awareness about the globally recognized “Meghalayan Age” during an interactive session with beneficiaries of the CM-Elevate and Focus programs in Shillong.

The Meghalayan Age, a period marking the last 4,200 years of Earth’s history, is of significant interest to geologists worldwide. Sangma, responding to a suggestion from a social entrepreneur in Mawmluh, East Khasi Hills, proposed producing a documentary film to explain the era’s geological significance.

During the session, farmers raised concerns about market linkages and financial aid under the Focus and Focus+ programs. Sangma clarified that funds provided to farmer organizations under these schemes are grants and subsidies, not loans. He also highlighted government efforts to support agriculture through market access, transportation, and value-added processing units.

The chief minister noted ongoing efforts to establish over 100 farmers’ markets and set up processing units to enhance agricultural productivity across the state.
