Meghalaya has not failed in handling Covid: Lok Sabha MP

NNN | Shillong, August 9: Lok Sabha MP from Shillong, Vincent Pala has said that the State has not “failed much” in handling the Covid situation.

He said that the dorbar shnongs are instrumental in handling the situation in the state.

“I saw that the main responsibility to handle the Covid 19 situation in the state is with the dorbar shnongs and community as a whole and I don’t see that our state had failed much compared to other states in handling the same,” Pala also said.

Pala said that funds that were given by the government to the dorbar shnongs who run a community quarantine centre is not enough compared to the amount of responsibility they are taking to handle the pandemic in the State.

When asked about the implementation of the funds received for handling the COVID 19, Pala however said that it is too early to comment on this now.

“I cannot say if the funds for the COIVD 19 were used religiously or not. Only after the CAG report and audit is done and questions are raised in the assembly then only we will know the fact,” he added.

Further, he rued that movement of army personnel is one of the reasons for the rise of Covid-19 cases in the State. He also said that he had written to the Home Minister on this issue and the Chief Secretary had also done the same to restrict or minimize the movement of the army personnel.
