Shillong: BJP Meghalaya state president, Ernest Mawrie on Friday said that his party has geared itself to fight fiercely in the upcoming Meghalaya assembly elections with its social media team leading from the front to counter the anti-development agenda that many opposition parties may use against the BJP.

“The party with the sole objective of development has gone on to form a social media team to counter rumours and negative propaganda spread against the party,” he said.

The social media campaign team comprises twelve members. It also has twelve district convenors with 55 constituency monitoring teams, Mawrie said in a statement.

The BJP leader said recently “some political opportunists” shared a morphed image from 2018, trying to spread hatred against a particular religion and its followers.

Stating that the BJP is fighting the upcoming polls with its core focus on development and social issues which are affecting the youth and community, Mawrie said, “Playing the religion card is done by parties whose motive is to try and win for self-gain only wherein pro-state and people’s issues are completely side-lined. The motivating factor about the social media team is that it is not a hired team but a voluntary service offered by party karyakartas.”

The BJP president also warned that the party will ensure that this time and hereafter any false propaganda against the party will invite legal consequences.

“Anyone found circulating wrong information will be monitored and dealt with as per the law,” he stated.

Further, Mawrie said that the social media campaign will also highlight correct information about the various central schemes and their implementing central agencies benefitting the people of the state.

This will show the real groundwork being done by the BJP in the centre while also providing food for thought about bringing the BJP to power in the state.

“A double combination of BJP in the centre and in the state can be extremely beneficial for the people and all-round progress will no longer be a dream but a reality. This will help fulfil people’s aspirations and put the state right back on track in terms of all-round growth and development,” he said.
