Shillong, July 28: Meghalaya Excise Minister, Kyrmen Shylla today said revenue from liquor sales is expected to cross Rs. 500 crore following the rollout of QR Code tracking and the Integrated Excise Management System (IEMS).
The government has temporarily halted issuing licenses to study concentration of wine shops in some areas and will decide on new ones based on IEMS data.
“We expect it will cross Rs. 500 crore after completion of IEMS and QR Code. There will be a huge change, not suddenly, but within a year or two,” Shylla said.
He announced that QR Code tracking for liquor bottles is underway and will be completed before Independence Day. The system will ensure quality and authenticity, detect adulterated liquor, and identify unauthorized sales.

He said licenses will not be granted solely based on a No Objection Certificate from the Rangbah Shnong. The government will consider data and adopt a regulated approach to licensing.
New licenses may be granted in locations with no existing wine shops, subject to a valid NOC.
Shylla then warned of strict action against factories and shops involved in illicit practices.
