Ukhrul, May 18: The Meitei Heritage Society (MHS) has issued a strong condemnation of a disturbing video circulating on social media in which Paojakhup Guite, president of the Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) Delhi, allegedly calls for the killing of Meiteis traveling to Ukhrul for the upcoming 5th State-Level Shirui Lily Festival.

Describing the video as “shocking and inflammatory,” the society urged authorities to take immediate and strict legal action against Paojakhup Guite, asserting that such hate speech must not go unpunished.

The MHS claims that Mr. Guite is a “habitual offender,” noting that an FIR had already been registered against him by Delhi Police in March 2025. They further allege that the KSO has been linked to previous violent incidents, including the use of an ambulance—reportedly owned by the organization—by Kuki militants in an attack that killed Meitei civilians in Koutruk in September 2024.

Scheduled to take place from May 20 to 24 in Ukhrul, the Shirui Lily Festival is celebrated as a symbol of cultural unity and natural heritage. The Meitei community’s participation, the society emphasized, reflects a spirit of inclusivity and harmony. The purported threats, they argue, strike at the heart of this ethos.

In its statement, the Meitei Heritage Society criticized both state and central authorities for failing to uphold the rule of law, citing issues such as the surrender of illegal arms, the reopening of national highways, access to religious pilgrimage sites, the dismantling of illegal bunkers, and the misuse of buffer zones. They contend that the failure to act decisively on these issues has emboldened extremist elements.

The society acknowledged the prompt action by Manipur Police in registering an FIR against Mr. Guite, who is reportedly absconding, and called for an intensive effort to apprehend and prosecute him.

“This incident must serve as a clear and unequivocal message that no individual or organization will be allowed to incite violence or destabilize peace without facing the full force of the law,” the statement said.

Manipur Police have registered an FIR against Paojakhup Guite following a viral video. Churachandpur police are actively pursuing his arrest, conducting raids in nearby districts. Police in neighbouring states, Mizoram, Assam, Nagaland, and Meghalaya, have also been requested to assist in apprehending him.

Authorities assure that all necessary security measures will be in place to ensure the safety of attendees at the Shirui Festival, said Manipur Police.
