Militant Ambush Assam Rifles Convoy near Sehken Village, Churachandpur

Churachandpur: An unknown armed militants, suspected to valley based group, ambushed Assam Rifles near S. Sehken Village under Singngat Sub-Division, Churachandpur district.

According to Chongthu News Service, the ambush on the convoy reportedly took place at around 10 am today.

According to a Churachandbur based news-site, The Hills Journal, 6 security personnel including wife of Commanding Officer died in the ambush. The militants are suspected to be Manipur valley-based militants. In the incident, the Commanding Officer (CO) of 46 Assam Rifles, his wife and son died at the spot. Three security personnel from Quick Response Team also reportedly died.

The commanding officer Viplav Tripathi, wife Anuja Tripathi and 8-year-old son Abeer Tripathi were killed in the ambush. Abeer was a student of St. Paul’s Institute, Lamka in standar-1. Use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) by the militants in the attack before firing several rounds have been reported, according to sources.

Prime minister Narendra Modi took to twitter and condemned the attack.
