Shillong: A drug supplier was arrested with 1 kg of amphetamine, an illegal psychotropic substance from the East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya today, police said.
Joseph Hmangaih Zuala from South Aizawl, Mizoram, was arrested from a night super bus at Nongsning village along NH-6, district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.

Further, after observing all legal provisions under NDPS Act in the presence of an independent witness and during the search a purple colour suitcase was found and on opening the said suitcase, a plastic bag was found which contained a white crystalline substance.
The substance on weighing was found to be 1.017 kg and a preliminary test gave a positive result for amphetamine (crystal meth) which is an illegal psychotropic substance, he said.

The police officer also said that as per the information available this is a transnational syndicate whereby raw material in the shape of crystal meth is transported to neighbouring island countries and it is processed further into methamphetamine tablets. It is a new network that has been busted.
A case has been registered at Khliehriat police station and further investigation is going on to unravel the entire network, he added.
