UKHRUL: A freelance journalist was found dead at her residence in Aizawl on Thursday (December 25) police said.

According to Press Trust of India (PTI), the deceased has been identified as Ezrela Dalidia Fanai (41), who had worked with several national media organisations over the years. She had been living alone since the death of her mother in July.

Police said Fanai was last in contact with people over phone calls till Wednesday (December 24) morning. However, she did not respond when members of a local church visited her house on Wednesday night to sing Christmas carols.

When relatives were unable to reach her by phone the next morning, they, along with local residents, forced open the house and found her lying dead on the floor.

Colleagues and family members told PTI that Fanai had been battling depression following her mother’s death. Locals also claimed that alcohol bottles were found near her body. An investigation is underway.
