Marking the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation who taught Indians the values of non-violence during the freedom movement, former deputy speaker MLA, MK Preshow Shimray, his office bearers, BJYM (Yuva) Ukhrul district and BJP karyakartas today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in cleaning Gandhi chowk area and paid floral tributes as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan turned 4 years.
It may be mentioned that last year, the 151st Gandhi Jayanti celebration in Ukhrul town was marked with paying homage and carrying out cleanliness drive of Gandhi chowk sponsorship by Preshow.
“I am honoured to be with the BJP Ukhrul District President and his office bearers, BJP 45-Chingai mandal president and his office bearers and other mandals’ Karyakartas at Gandhi Chowk, Ukhrul to pay homage to the father of the nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on his 152nd birth anniversary,” said Preshow.

On the sidelines of the celebration, Phreshow later joined the Ngahui village youths in their cleanliness drive and encouraged them on the 4th anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The BJYM (Yuva) 45-Chingai mandal president, Themchuishang along with other Yuva executives and Karyakartas were also present to mark the occasion.
Speaking at Ngahui Junction, Preshow emphasised on various principles that Mahatma Gandhi lead the people of India to attaining freedom through the principle of non-violence. Taking cue from the ideals of Ahimsa, he also encouraged the youths towards living a clean lifestyle, and said today’s youths should live through examples.
Preshow gave financial assistance to Ngahui youths as he sponsored their refreshments and provided 12 bags of rice to Ngahui BJP unit.
Plantation of indigenous trees and cleanliness drive and talk about Ahimsa practice by Gandhi were the main activities of today’s event.
