Ukhrul, May 28: Amid growing criticism over the handling of the crisis in Manipur, 44 MLAs have urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to allow the formation of a new government.
A delegation of 10 MLAs, including Heirok MLA Th. Radheshyam, Keishamthong MLA Sapam Nishikant, Uripok MLA Kh. Raghumani, Hiyanglam MLA Y. Radheshyam, Wangjing-Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen, Mayang Imphal MLA K. Robindro, Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwor, Tamenglong MLA Jamhenlung Pamei, and Kshetrigao MLA Noorul Hassan, called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media outside the Governor’s residence, Th. Radheshyam said the current government emphasized the need for a fresh mandate. He noted that the consensus for a new government cuts across party lines, although Congress MLAs were not part of the representation. He expressed confidence that even the opposition Congress would support the formation of a new government in Manipur, which is currently under President’s Rule.

Meanwhile, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata left for New Delhi shortly after the development. He boarded Indigo Flight 6E-2417 from Imphal around 1:40 PM and is expected to meet top Ministry of Home Affairs officials on Wednesday evening.
Sources suggest the Speaker’s visit is related to the unfolding political situation and may lead to the installation of a new government in the state, though it has not been officially confirmed yet.
