Monsang Community Celebrates 100 Years of Christianity

Ukhrul, Feb 10: The Monsang community on Monday celebrated 100 years of Christianity with great fervent at the Mission Centre, Khoriibung, Japhou in Chandel district under the theme “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness” (Isaiah 25;1).

Organised by the Monsang Naga Baptist Churches Association (MNBCA), the Monsang Naga Christian Centenary Celebration (1925-2025) was observed to recall the 100 years of God’s faithfulness, love, and blessings towards the Monsang community. The celebration also recalled how the pioneers took the first step towards Christianity and the journey since then.

The centenary celebration began with the hoisting of the flag by Upa Ng Roland, the first executive president of the (MNBCA).

Rev. Dr. Ng. Molarhring, President of Monsang Theological Association (MTA), releasing the souvenir and history of the Monsang Naga Christian Centenary Celebration (1925-2025), recalled how the pioneers first accepted Christianity in 1924 and baptizing on February 11, 1925. He said God had been faithful to the Monsang community throughout the century and had blessed the people. Stating this, he called on the people to be faithful to God. Further, he stressed that the souvenir recounts the history of Christianity amongst the Monsang community and that there were many things to learn from it.

MBC president Rev. Dr. Mathotmi Vasha exhorted the gathering to remain faithful to God and their Christian roots. He declared that there are over 500 Baptist Churches in Manipur with lakhs of faithful and they were all united in Christ.

Speaker of the event Rev. K. Losii Mao, General Secretary of Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC), congratulated the Monsang Community for 100 years of Christianity. While encouraging them to continue with their stand in the Lord, he also urged them to thank God and be faithful as God has been to them.

He spoke at length about the values of Christianity and what it means to be one. He said that God had already given rules and guidelines since the time of Moses and the Israelites and that one must follow them to live in God. God has always been faithful but it is us, human beings, who are straying away from God, he said. He concluded his speech by stating that the steadfast love of the Lord will never cease and we will continue to receive His love and blessings.

As part of the centenary celebration, the Lamkang Naga Baptist Association (LNBA) choir enthralled the gathering with hymns. Liwa Sarei Baptist Church and Changnhe Baptist Church also added enchantment to the celebration with their special songs.
