More arms and explosives recovered in Manipur

Imphal: More arms and explosives were recovered on Wednesday as Manipur police continued operations in the borders of hills-valley districts, police said.

Today, three pistols, two magazines of Pistol, one submachine gun 9 mm carbine without magazine, six hand grenades (HE-36 without detonator), 10 Tube Launching, 12 ballistic rounds marked with H7.62D and six grenade firing rings were recovered.

The cache of arms and explosives was recovered from a place at Apunlok Canal on Phayeng-Kadangband road during an operation by Imphal West district police led by SP Dr S Ibomcha Singh today, around 3.20 pm, the police also said.

The police launched the operation based on reliable information about the presence of some arms in and around the adjoining area of Apunlok Canal of Phayeng and Kadangband towards Twuikun village, the police further said.

The above recovered articles were seized at the spot by observing formalities and a regular case was registered for investigation, the police added.

Today’s recovery of arms and explosives suspected to be abandoned by miscreants who attacked in the settlement areas in the fringe of valley districts was not the first time.

According to a statement of the Manipur police control room on August 15, in search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Bishnupur and Kangpokpi district, 11 arms and 78 ammunition were recovered.
