Data Meets Brilliance: Anwesha 2.0 Challenges Tripura Students on India’s Statistics

Agartala, Jul 18: In a celebration of knowledge and numbers, Anwesha 2.0, an inter-college quiz on statistics, economy, and governance, was conducted on 18th July 2025 in Agartala by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

Organised by the Field Operations Division, Regional Office, Agartala, under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the event was held at Sukanta Academy and brought together students from 30 colleges across Tripura. The quiz aimed to promote awareness of India’s statistical systems and data-driven governance.

The programme was graced by Principal Secretary (Forest), Government of Tripura, R. K. Samal, as the Chief Guest, and Deputy Director General, National Sample Survey, Anil Gehlot, as the Special Guest.

Deputy Director General, NSO (FOD), Agartala, Anil Digambar Patil delivered the keynote address, highlighting the pivotal role of the National Sample Survey (NSS) in shaping India’s planning over the last 75 years. He emphasised NSS contributions in areas like employment, health, education, and consumption, enabling evidence-based policy decisions. Patil underlined the growing importance of official statistics in the digital age and urged students to consider careers in data and research, while acknowledging the vital role played by field staff and academic institutions in the NSS framework.

The quiz was conducted in two segments—a written round and an on-stage verbal round. Topics included the Indian Economy, Official Statistics, National Statistical System, and Government data initiatives. The competition was anchored by Quiz Masters Abhijit Bhattacharjee and Subhrajit Bhattacharjee.

The winning team was from MBB College, comprising Tanmoy Debnath and Joynil Saha. The first runners-up were Resam Das and Arpita Rabidas from Women’s College, Agartala, while the second runners-up were Sayan Roy and Deeptanu Bhowmik from Tripura University.

The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, celebrating the enthusiasm and excellence of Tripura’s student community in the field of statistics and public data.
