Shillong: The deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills has passed an order under Section 144 CrPC to strictly prohibit the movement of a person or persons within 100 meters from the Indo-Bangladesh border from 6 pm to 6 am with immediate effect.

Informing this through a communiqué, the deputy commissioner stated that the decision was made to thwart the illegal activities of international gangs, criminals etc along the Indo-Bangladesh border within the district.

“Besides smugglers engaged in illegal transportation of contraband items over the border, there are reports of terrorists and fundamentalists trying to sneak in through the border during the night which if not taken care of will adversely affect the security of the state,” informed the deputy commissioner.
