Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Saturday observed the 131st Birth Anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at Congress Bhavan, Imphal. The function was attended by senior CLP leaders Okram Ibobi Singh and MPCC President, Moirangthem Okendro who led the offering of a floral tribute to the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru, followed by Congress leaders and workers.

Addressing the gathering, O.Ibobi Singh talked about how Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru played an important part in the freedom struggle of India as well as his efforts to make the country a superpower. He said, “What India has achieved today as a superpower country is all because of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It did not happen in a matter of 5 or 10 years and this vision was brought to life because of his sacrifices. He was a committed leader and a dedicated freedom fighter. I am proud to be a part of this auspicious event as we are able to pay respects to him on his 131st Birth Anniversary.”

“I say that no Congress workers should feel disheartened as we live in a democracy and ups and downs are bound to happen. Our duty, irrespective of whether we are in power or not, is to serve the people at our level best. This will always be our truth”, he added.

In a message, MPCC President M. Okendro described the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as an Architect of modern India. On top of bringing reform in social, economic and political aspects of the country, he set up the Children Film Society of India in 1955 to provide a platform to showcase the talents of the children. In the field of education sector, he set up numerous technical institutions including AIIMS, IIT, and IIM.
