Naga Apex Civil Organizations Visit Flood-Hit Areas with Relief

Senapati, June 2: The Naga Women Union (NWU), along with the United Naga Council (UNC), All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), and Rongmei Students’ Organisation, visited flood-affected areas in and around Imphal city on Saturday. The recent cyclone Remal devastated low-lying regions of Manipur, other northeastern states of India, West Bengal, and Bangladesh, displacing thousands of people.

During their visit to relief camps, the NWU President and her team interacted with displaced families, encouraging them to remain strong and maintain their faith in God.

The visiting team provided basic relief materials, especially to those belonging to the Naga community. While the relief materials were not sufficient for the scale of devastation, they were meant as a gesture of goodwill and solidarity, with hopes for an improved situation in the coming days.

The NWU urged state and central authorities to provide necessary relief materials such as clean drinking water, food, toiletries, medicine, and sanitary pads for women and children, highlighting the urgency of these needs. The team also expressed concerns about the potential outbreak of waterborne diseases following the flood and called on relevant government departments to take necessary actions.
