UKHRUL, AUG 12: The Tokpa Naga Village Authority and the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), Manipur, have condemned the alleged armed attack and arson at Tokpa Naga village in Champai block of Kangpokpi district on Tuesday night.
According to the Tokpa Naga Village Authority, a group of armed men in camouflage uniforms entered the village at around 9.30 pm on August 11 and opened fire before setting fire to nine houses, a church and other properties.
The authority said the attack caused extensive damage and displaced several families.

It also alleged that CRPF personnel and Kangpokpi Police stationed at Kalapahar High School, located close to the village, did not respond immediately despite appeals and emergency calls from villagers.
The village authority has demanded registration of an FIR and an immediate investigation, besides the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the attack.
It has also sought additional security deployment in the area and immediate relief, rehabilitation and compensation for families affected by the arson.
In a separate statement, the LNC said multiple armed persons allegedly entered Tokpa Naga village and set fire to around 10 houses and a church.
The LNC questioned the failure of security personnel to prevent or intervene in the attack, claiming that personnel were stationed only a few metres from the affected area.

It demanded a separate inquiry into the conduct of the security personnel present in the vicinity and called for a swift and time-bound investigation into the incident.
The Liangmai Naga Council also sought stronger security arrangements and adequate relief and compensation for affected families.
Both the Naga bodies called for those responsible for the attack to be brought to justice and for measures to prevent further attacks on civilians in the area.
