Naga Hoho: ‘AFSPA an instrument to forcefully occupy free Naga Land’

Dimapur: The Naga Hoho, while demanding the complete withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), has expressed its dismay over what it called the devilish design of the Government of India for the false promises and assurances to the Nagas in particular and the North-East region in general. The Naga Hoho also said that the continued policy of the Government of India to traumatize, wage proxy wars and create psychological threats against the Nagas deserves condemnation from every right thinking citizen.

In a statement Wednesday, the Naga Hoho said, “When the popularly elected democratic government of Nagaland had recommended for repeal of the infamous AFSPA 1958, the Government of India seems to reject and discard the voice of the people”. It then asked, “When India had officially recognized the political rights of the Nagas, why should India play fool with the sentiments of the Naga people?”

The Naga Hoho then said that there cannot be true peace and mutual respect through the barrel of a gun. “And therefore, the draconian law must go away from our land. The extension of AFSPA in the Naga areas is only the justification of how India had forcefully occupied the free Naga Land,” it added.

The statement then said that the Naga people look forward with hope for a peaceful resolution to the Indo-Naga political issue. However, with AFSPA in place, there cannot be a true spirit of peace and tranquility, stated the Naga Hoho. “To make the matter worse, the recent deliberate attempt of the Indian Army to kill innocent Naga citizens with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted at Puiluan (Kambiron) village under Tamenglong district of Manipur, on September 24, 2022 is one glaring proof,” pointed out the Naga Hoho.

It then said that the Naga people are outraged and anguished by the “terrors created by the Indian Army” over the Naga people. The Naga Hoho further said that the patience of the Nagas should not be misunderstood as weakness.

The Naga Hoho once again demanded the complete withdrawal of the draconian Act from the region once and for all. “Let the voice of the people reign over for peace and just peace,” it added.
