Naga Students’ Union Chandel Hails Government’s Move on Student Attendance

Chandel, July 21: The Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) has praised the government for its resolution to implement compulsory 75% attendance for students in all government and government-aided colleges, and to bar those who fail to meet this requirement from taking exams.

In a release on Sunday, NSUC president Ruwnglar Elly Anal stated that the union is “happy to learn that the government has imposed a minimum 75% attendance requirement for all students in government and government-aided colleges. Students who fail to meet this requirement will not be allowed to fill out exam forms or appear for semester exams.”

According to the notification, this government order follows a resolution taken by Manipur University at the meeting of the Committee for the Preparation of Examination Regulations for the 4-year Degree Course under NEP-2020 held on November 16, 2022, the NSUC said.

The NSUC maintained that, in line with that resolution, the government has directed all government and government-aided colleges to hold daily assemblies for staff and students. The government also stated that the Manipur University resolution on minimum 75% attendance will be strictly enforced, and no students below the minimum attendance shall be allowed to fill out the examination forms.

Praising the move, Elly said that as the apex student body of Naga students in Chandel district, the NSUC appreciates and commends Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and the concerned authorities, especially H. Gyan Prakash, Commissioner (Hr. & Tech. Edn), Government of Manipur, for this positive step to improve and enhance the educational system in the state.

Elly emphasized that the NSUC was formed to look after the welfare of students in Chandel district and has been working to improve the overall educational system in the district. Therefore, it views the government’s move positively, seeing it as a step that will brighten the future of the district. The Naga student body assures the government of all possible help to implement and enforce the resolution in the district, the NSUC president stated.

It may be noted that the NSUC, in its first Legislative Assembly for the tenure 2024-27 held at Leingangching in Chandel on May 4, 2024, also stressed the need to improve the educational system in the district, Elly stated.

Moreover, on July 15, 2024, the NSUC organized a One-Day Consultation and Interaction Programme on Quality Education at the United College, Lambung in Chandel district, during which the issues of staff and student punctuality and attendance were also discussed, the president of the Naga Students’ Union Chandel stated.

As the government enforces the attendance system to improve the educational system in the state, the NSUC will also ensure that it is implemented and enforced in the district, the student body assured. Moreover, it will ensure that the attendance system is followed not only by students but also by teaching and non-teaching staff, it stated.

The Naga student body will leave no stone unturned to ensure that quality education is prioritized in all educational institutions in Chandel district. Meanwhile, the NSUC extends its best wishes to the government under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for implementing the resolutions of Manipur University for better quality education in the state, the NSUC said.
