Senapati, July 21: A joint meeting held between the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) and the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has directed the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) to halt their current agitation with immediate effect. The district apex student body had been imposing an economic embargo against the Kuki community, causing significant inconvenience to commuters along the highway.

In a press release issued by the Naga People’s Organization, it stated that a meeting was held between the NPO, CoTU, and its advisory board at the NPO office in Senapati on July 18. During the meeting, CoTU, a Kuki body in Kangpokpi apologized for the extreme atrocities inflicted on Naga commuters along NH-2. A mutual agreement was reached wherein CoTU agreed to address the following grievances: no unnecessary frisking and harassment of commuters along the highway, no illegal extortion of Naga commercial vehicles, and no sudden total shutdowns or blockades affecting Naga commuters.

The Kuki leaders agreed to resolve these issues within seven days, failing which the NPO may be compelled to initiate agitation to counter non-compliance. In this regard, the SDSA has been directed to call off their current agitation.
