Naga Students’ Union Delhi Marks 78th Naga Independence Day

The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD), celebrated the 78th Naga Independence Day at Lodhi Colony, New Delhi.

Delivering the welcome address, Jepi Y Chisho, President of NSUD reflected on the sacrifices made by our forebears and the foundation laid by them and emphasized that it is now up to the present generation of Nagas to carry forward the Naga political aspirations.

He asserted that “while we celebrate the resilience of the Naga people thus far, we must also look towards strengthening our resolve for realisation of Naga political aspirations.”

Hepuni Kayina, Sr. Pastor, Mao Baptist Church, Delhi, delivered a powerful keynote speech wherein he highlighted the difference between the dreams of the Nagas ancestors and the current Naga generation and reminded the audience of the many sacrifices that its ancestors had made in their collective pursuit. Drawing inspiration from how Israel emerged free after centuries of subjugation, he called upon the younger generation of Nagas to strength their resolve towards freedom and self-determination. He quoted A.Z. Phizo saying, “We shall do all humanly possible so that we will not go down in shame.” He added that while we may be invaded, we must not be subjugated.

After pronouncement of special prayer by Caleb Mpamei, Pastor, Zeliangrong Christian Fellowship, Delhi, Ningreichon Tungshang delivered a message from the Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights followed by a message from Naga Scholars’ Association delivered by Dr. R Khongreiwo.

Tomito Zhimomi, Dy. Speaker, NSUD, in his short message, lamented at the absence of any political solution in sight and made an appeal to the Government of India to bring about an early political solution.

With Sajimu Pochury, Vice President of NSUD  as the Chairperson and Zanngasung Zimik, Asst. GS of NSUD as the Secretary, the program began with a prayer pronounced by Jonathan Pao, Home Evangelist, Mao Christian Fellowship Delhi and concluded with a prayer by Kaboto Kinimi, Pastor, Sumi Christian Fellowship Delhi.
