KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 11: Veteran politician of Nagaland, Imkong Imchen passed away in Guwahati today after a brief illness. Following this, the Nagaland government has announced a state funeral on November 12 in Kohima.
Imkong had held ministerial posts for several terms. At the time of his demise, he was a sitting MLA and Advisor of Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland.
Meanwhile, the Home department has informed that a state funeral to pay last respect and homage to Late Imkong L Imchen, Advisor, Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, will be held at his official residence, MHI3, Old Ministers’ Hill in Kohima on November 12 at 9:30 am.

Condoling the demise of the veteran politician, Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said he was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Imkong L. Imchen, MLA and Advisor, Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation at Apollo Hospital, Guwahati today.
“Late Shri Imkong L. Imchen had served the society in various capacities, as a student leader, public leader, cabinet minister, and as Advisor to the Government of Nagaland. In his death, the state has lost a dedicated and sincere leader”, the Governor stated, adding, “On behalf of the people of Nagaland and my own behalf, I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May the Almighty God give grace and fortitude to bear this profound loss and grant them solace at this hour of pain”.
Also condoling the demise of Imkong, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio said it “deeply pains me to learn about the demise of Mr. Imkong L. Imchen, Advisor to the Government of Nagaland, today at Guwahati”.
Rio then said Imkong L. Imchen and he shared a long association and a close working relationship built over decades of collaboration and mutual respect.

Rio also said Imkong was not only a colleague but also a dear friend. “I knew him as a warm, cheerful and an outspoken person, who was never afraid to express his opinions and always stood up for what he believed in,” Rio also said. According to Rio, Imkong was a visionary leader, who had the rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life. “Throughout his political journey, he worked tirelessly and selflessly for the welfare of the people”, Rio added.
