UKHRUL: The Naga Students Organization (NSO), headquartered at Lahe Town, Naga Self-Administered Zone, Myanmar, has expressed deep concern over the reported ambush at Hongbei village under Kamjong District on 28th March, 2026. The incident claimed the lives of four Naga Army Eastern Flank personnel. Also, the NSO has demanded accountability and justice for the victims and their families.

In a press statement, the NSO, while expressing its deepest shock and profound sorrow, stated that the ‘tragic incident is especially alarming at a time when the Naga people are confronted with challenges and threats from our common adversaries from all directions: the East, West, North, and South’.

“At such a critical juncture, unity, solidarity, and a collective commitment to safeguard our rights and identity are of utmost importance. Any act of violence among our own people only weakens our shared cause and undermines our future,” it said.

Further, condemning the act, the NSO calls for a thorough and transparent inquiry into the incident, stating, “The motives of the perpetrators must be clearly established before the public, and justice must be delivered in accordance with the law, for the departed souls and the grieving families they leave behind.”

Also, it added that the organisation has, from the very beginning, consistently stood for peace, reconciliation, and unity amid internal differences among various NSCN/GPRN groups. “As representatives of the younger generation, we have seen enough and witnessed that internal division remains our greatest threat—one that is more damaging than external challenges, it said.

Furthermore, the organization declared that it has actively engaged with various stakeholders, including visits to Hebron, Eastern Flank camps, and other NSCN/GPRN leadership, conveying the aspirations and concerns of the students and youth for a unified and purposeful struggle rather than a fragmented and weakened society.

In view of the present situation, the NSO requests the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), as responsible local authorities and guardians, to immediately intervene and facilitate a just and peaceful resolution to the incident at Hongbei, in accordance with both established laws of the land and Naga customary practices.

Moreover, stating that as a generation at a crucial moment in our history, it appeals to the NSCN/GPRN Eastern Flank Command to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from any form of retaliation. “We call upon all concerned to uphold peace and place trust in justice and due process,” it added, while also urging the authorities at Hebron to remain accountable, responsive, and cooperative with the public, as per the press statement issued by the Publicity and Information Bureau GHQ Naga Army dated Oking, 29 March 2026.

“The Naga Students Organization stands in solidarity with the bereaved families and mourns the loss of our brave Naga Army personnel, Major Sochipem Phungshok, Sergeant Major Zairay Vasah, Sergeant Bahnle Ahlapya, and Sergeant Thansomi Washi,” it said, while praying for their souls to rest in eternal peace, and strength and comfort for the families in this time of grief.
