Kohima, September 3: A meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Nagaland Government, held on September 1, 2025, appealed to the Government of India to elevate the ongoing dialogue between the Nagas and the Government of India (Naga peace process) to the highest political level by appointing an interlocutor of “political/ministerial level, who has the confidence and mandate of the government.”
An official statement from the Government of Nagaland said today that the meeting was held on September 1, 2025, at the State Banquet Hall in Kohima, under the chairmanship of Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief Ministers, Ministers, Members of Parliament, Advisors, and MLAs, the statement also said.

The Political Affairs Committee of the Nagaland Government then “unanimously” resolved to endorse the Ungma Statement of August 23, 2025, which “upholds the unity, courage, and enduring pursuit of a shared future for the Naga people.” The committee further expressed its support for the call that all Naga political groups (NPGs), with the clear and collective support of the ‘tribe hohos,’ should converge at a ‘common ground’ to articulate and pursue a shared political vision, founded on the historical and political rights of the Naga people.
The Political Affairs Committee also resolved that the Naga peace talks be resumed at the political level in order to expedite the negotiation process.
The Political Affairs Committee reiterated certain resolutions adopted during the consultative meeting held on September 12, 2024, at the State Banquet Hall, Kohima, with the participation of all stakeholders, including ‘tribal hohos,’ representatives of civil society organisations, mass-based organizations, church bodies, NGOs, gazetted officers’ unions, student bodies, and political parties.

The September 1 meeting appreciated the negotiating parties, namely the Government of India and the ‘Naga political groups,’ of the ongoing Indo-Naga political dialogue, for continuing to uphold the principles of the ceasefire agreements and ensuring that there is no breakdown of the talks despite facing several challenges and hurdles in the past two decades.
The meeting also appealed to all sections of the Naga society to make further efforts towards strengthening unity and oneness in order to bring all stakeholders of the peace process under a spirit of understanding. The meeting agreed that all participants of the meeting will make renewed efforts for the unity of the Naga society.
The meeting further resolved to appeal to all ‘Naga political groups’ and ‘national workers’ to refrain from any further factionalism, the formation of breakaway groups, or the creation of new organizations.
