Dimapur: The proposed Nagaland statewide 6-hour bandh called by the Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC), has been reportedly deferred/postponed.

The bandh was announced to express resentment “over inordinate delay in delivering the long awaited Naga political solution as promised by Government of India”. However, reports said that NPAC, in a meeting Friday evening, reportedly decided to defer/postpone the bandh.

The bandh was scheduled to begin from 6 am and culminate at 12 noon on Saturday.

Many organisations came out strongly against the proposed bandh called by NPAC.

The NPAC had said earlier that the decision to impose the 6-hour bandh was taken in a meeting on January 12 where “tribal bodies and civil organizations participated”.

Earlier, the NPAC had said, “The civil voices particularly the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland, Nagaland Tribes Council, Nagaland GB Federation, CNTC, ACAUT, CNCCI, Ex-PAN, SCAN, Political parties and many others have expressed their stand loud and clear that we want solution before election. The demand for solution before election is a consensus demand of the primary stake holders. So, NPAC once again urges the highest authority of the Government of India to heed the voice of the people and take the peace process to its logical conclusion and deliver solution.”

The NPAC then said that, while the Naga people are now at crossroad, a firm stand proving “our conviction on the demand for final solution” has to come out clear, either “for or against” in order to separate the “grains” from “chaffs.”

The reasons for deferring/postponing the bandh are not known.
