Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) has launched a new garbage tipper truck towards stepping up the Small Town Committee’s (STC) sanitation efforts in the township.
UADC Chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung formally flagged off the new TATA mini truck in a simple ceremony held at its Phungreitang office campus Friday in the presence of executive members K Ramshang and Edmund Chiphang, Choithar councillor Mark Luithing, CEO Polly Makan and others.
Speaking on the ocassion, Dr Yaronsho Ngalung said that the new garbage truck was procured under tied grant of the 15th Finance Commission 2020-21 and would add to the existing two such trucks which are currently engaged in solid waste collection in the town.
“This new tipper truck is launched today for better sanitation service to the community under the Small Town Committee of the council,” he asserted, acknowledging the constant support and cooperation from the ADC executive council, CEO and staffers.
He also said that STC under the council is holding consultations from time to time to improve its functioning in different areas including sanitation of the town. While lauding the sanitation workforce under the council, the ADC chief noted that the public in the district headquarters have now come to know the services rendered by STC, especially sanitation.
According to executive officer of STC Leiyaphy, there are 43 sanitation workers including three drivers under the committee, who are currently engaged in solid waste collection from Monday to Friday.
The sanitation service covers the stretch from Dungrei junction to Kasomtang junction through the main town market areas, she added.
