NIAPA to Host 5th Northeast Open TT from Dec 18

CHUMOUKEDIMA, NOV 19: The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) has announced that the 5th NIAPA Northeast Open Table Tennis Tournament will be held from December 18 to 21 at the NIAPA Mini Stadium in Chümoukedima.

According to a press release, the championship aims to promote table tennis in Nagaland while providing state players an opportunity to compete against top paddlers from across the Northeast. Events will include Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Under-21, Veteran Doubles, Best Duo, and Team categories.

Top-ranked players from the region are expected to participate, with a total cash prize of Rs. 6,00,000—the organisers say it is among the highest prize pools in the country for such a tournament.

NIAPA managing director A. K. Yhome said the academy remains committed to strengthening the foundation of table tennis in Nagaland by creating avenues for competition, growth, and exposure. She added that the tournament aligns with NIAPA’s broader mission of nurturing talent across multiple disciplines.

The four-day event will begin with the veteran and team categories, followed by U-21 and individual events. The finals are scheduled for December 21.

This year, NIAPA has introduced a new “Best Duo” category to give special focus to Nagaland players. The top pair will receive Rs. 15,000, while the second-place duo will get Rs. 12,000, and semifinalists Rs. 4,000 each.

Cash prizes have been announced across all categories. The Team Event will award Rs. 1,00,000 to the winners and Rs. 50,000 to the runners-up.

In Men’s Singles, the prizes are Rs. 25,000 for first place, Rs. 15,000 for second, and Rs. 5,000 each for semifinalists. Women’s Singles winners will receive Rs. 20,000, Rs. 12,000, and Rs. 4,000, respectively.

Women’s Doubles carry prizes of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 5,000 each, while Men’s Doubles will offer Rs. 30,000, Rs. 20,000, and Rs. 5,000 each. Mixed Doubles champions will receive Rs. 30,000, with Rs. 20,000 for runners-up and Rs. 5,000 for semifinalists.

For U-21, the prizes are Rs. 15,000 for first place, Rs. 10,000 for second, and Rs. 4,000 each for semifinalists. The women’s U-21 category will award Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,000, and Rs. 3,000, respectively.

In Veteran Doubles, the prizes are Rs. 15,000, Rs. 12,000, and Rs. 4,000 each.

Other individual recognitions, including “Best Naga Player of the Day,” will also be presented.
