The Manipur government has imposed night curfew in the state as the number of COVID-19 cases is fast rising in the last fortnight.

The night curfew will be effective from 8 pm to 4 am every day, said an order of the state chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar who is also the chairman of the State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority issued late Friday evening.

The exponentially increased infections in the last fortnight  has necessitated the authority to impose the night curfew so as to reduce unnecessary movement and intermingling of people, the order stated.

The curfew will not be applicable to all good carrier vehicles including medical oxygen, all essential service establishments like pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, power supply, public health engineering, municipal offices engaged in cleaning, fire services and medical oxygen manufacturing plants. All government officials who have been assigned specific duties of COVID-19 management or other emergency services will also not be covered by the curfew, the order stated.
