Ukhrul: The report circulating in mainstream media from Noida Film City regarding Alfred Kanngam Arthur, former MLA of 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, being attacked for the third time on Thursday in Ukhrul District is incorrect.

Alfred K Arthur is an intending MP candidate from the Indian National Congress for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024.

The news report from mainstream media, which included a video clip of gunshots, pertained to an incident on March 18, Monday at TK Woodland, where a public meeting was organized by like-minded individuals and well-wishers of the INC candidate. Unknown miscreants fired multiple blank shots from the western side of the venue, prompting a response from police personnel present at the scene. This incident was the first of its kind.

Subsequently, on March 19, Tuesday, unidentified miscreants fired multiple blank shots from afar just before the start of a “One-day Zingtun Consultation on Political Journey: Lok Sabha Election 2024,” held at the Mandap Hall of LM Block, Ukhrul District, Manipur.

Ukhrul Times, based out of Ukhrul Headquarters, is unaware of any third attack occurring in Ukhrul District on Thursday, as no public meeting was called or held by supporters of Alfred K Arthur. It has been raining all day long in Ukhrul.

It is essential to note that Alfred Arthur was not ‘attacked with gunshots’. The accurate reporting of the two incidents, which disrupted public meetings, is that ‘blank shots were fired’ from a distance. There were no reports of injuries or casualties in either incident.

The mainstream news report regarding the Thursday gunshot attack is misleading.
