North East Autumn Festival 2022 cancelled owing to ‘Cyclone Sitrang’

Ukhrul: The organisers of the ongoing North East Autumn Festival (NEAF) 2022 and Chiko Adventures team has cancelled the festival that began from October 20 in view of the impending Cyclone Sitrang.

The first edition of NEAF was due to end on October 26 at Jorcheng, Lunghar Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur.

It may be mentioned that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday sounded red alert for four states in the Northeast region.

In an urgent press release issued on Tuesday, Chiko Adventures said that it tried its best until the last second for this festival. “But because of unforeseen natural calamities “Cyclone Sitrang” we have to cancel the last two days’ event,” the organisers said.

Chiko Adventures also expressed sadness on the impact caused by the Cyclone affecting not just the festival but the livelihood of the people in Manipur. “We shared this burden with the families who
lost their loved ones, livelihood, crops and other resources,” it added.

“We stand with the families of the two-missing person in Poi village who were washed away by the torrent rain at Tholiru river. This is hard for all of us and we share the sorrow with the families,” it further said.

The North East Autumn Festival & Chiko Adventures team said it sincerely thanked to all for the support they received during the festival and said it hope to come back again.
