Ukhrul: Body of the missing woman who was swept away in Tholiru stream on October 24, 2022 near Challou river at Poi village in the northern part of Manipur’s Ukhrul district was recovered at Akhikho village in Nagaland state. Sources said that the body of RK. Ramreila aged 34, wife of RK. Mathotmi was found at the riverside Thursday evening by the villagers.

Another body of the missing woman identified as RS. Ngamreila aged 30, wife of RS. Varechung was recovered on the third day of search operation on October 27. The duo were washed away due to surging waters while crossing Tholiru stream near Challou river of Poi village while returning from their paddy field.

It may be mentioned that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on October 24, 2022 had sounded red alert of Cyclone Sitrang for four states in the Northeast region, partly affecting Manipur.

The search operation team comprised of NDRF, SDRF, Assam Rifles, district police and volunteers from Poi village and neighbouring villages along the stretch of Challou river initially.

RK. Ramreila is survived by her husband and five children while RS. Ngamreila is survived by her husband and six children.

MK Preshow Shimray, former deputy speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly who is also from Poi village offered his condolences to the bereaved family members.

MK Preshow also expressed his thankfulness to chief minister N Biren Sing, NDRF, SDRF, Assam Rifles, Ukhrul District Administration, Police personnel, Poi villagers, neighbouring villages, Jessami ADC and village council; ADC, Melori and village council, Akhikho village council villagers and all the well wishers civil organisations and churches, including print and electronic media.
