Ukhrul: Kachui Timothy Zimik, the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency candidate of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), officially began his campaign from New Canaan village in Ukhrul district on Thursday. This marks the first electoral campaign by a political party in Manipur for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024, scheduled to be held in two phases on April 19 and 26, respectively.

The campaign kickoff event was attended by Secretary General of the NPF central office in Kohima and Nagaland MLA Achumbemo Kikon, Manipur Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, and NPF Manipur State Unit President and Minister Awangbow Newmai. MLAs from the NDA alliance, party workers, supporters, and people from various walks of life also participated in the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Zimik, a former Indian Reserve Service (IRS) Officer and a consensus candidate of the Nagas, urged people to extend their support and vote for him so that he can be their voice once elected. He highlighted the significance of national political parties joining hands with a Naga consensus candidate for the first time in the elections.

“I am grateful to all the BJP and NPP party leaders, both in Delhi and Manipur, for their unprecedented support. Let’s work together to transform Manipur into a state where our children can be proud,” said Zimik.

He emphasized the need for mutual respect and sincerity among communities to solve problems and pledged his commitment to restoring peace in the state. Zimik stressed the importance of inclusive development, shared prosperity, social justice, and economic upliftment in both hills and valleys.

“We have divided ourselves for too long on ideological, ethnic, and political lines, but I am here to represent all of you,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Achumbemo Kikon highlighted the NPF’s continuous efforts since its formation in 1963 to uphold the rights and aspirations of not just the Naga people but also all indigenous communities in the northeast region. He expressed confidence that Zimik’s candidacy would bring victory not only for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency but also for the NDA consensus candidate in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Th. Basanta Kumar Singh.
