NPO Questions Delay of 4-Lane Project; Endorses JAC’s Demand

Senapati: The Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Senapati, has strongly endorsed the statement issued by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the diversion of the Trans-Asian Highway 1 (AH1) from Tumuyon Khullen to Tumnoupokpi.

The release mentioned that the JAC had previously expressed profound disappointment over the prolonged silence and inaction of the concerned authorities regarding the construction of AH1. Despite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the JAC and the Deputy Commissioner, the NPO questioned why the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has failed to initiate construction to date.

The NPO appealed to the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) and the NHIDCL to heed the JAC’s request to prevent confusion and hindrances in other areas. The release stated that the Government of Manipur, NHIDCL, and the District Administration must intervene and promptly commence construction work along the route without further delay.

The NPO also questioned why there is further delay in the project when the villagers have shown their full support by submitting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) signed by all village chiefs of the area and a detailed survey was conducted in collaboration with NHIDCL and the District Revenue Department.

If the delay persists, the JAC has indicated that they may be compelled to launch democratic agitations to express their resentment. The NPO stated it fully endorses and supports such movements. Furthermore, the NPO warned that the State Government and concerned authorities will bear full responsibility for any untoward incidents arising from the delay and non-compliance with the project.

The NPO joined the JAC in urging immediate attention and action to ensure the timely implementation of this vital infrastructure project, which is crucial for the benefit of the region and its people.
