Imphal: Security forces in Manipur apprehended an active cadre of NSCN(K) during an operation at Thangal village in Noney district, police said on Thursday.
A joint team of special commando unit of the state police and troops of 29 Assam Rifles apprehended the cadre identified as one Kamei Pourei Rongmei (30), son of K Kanamdin Rongmei of Lungpai village of Noney district on Wednesday. Police said that the joint team of security forces intercepted the cadre during a frisking and checking operation along the Old Cachar Road based on a tip-off about the movement of cadres of the outfit from Khoupum towards Noney. Kamei was detained on suspicion and later turned out to be an active cadre of the NSCN(K), police added.
Police then alleged that the apprehended cadre joined NSCN(K) in 2016 through one Dangmeii Salempou Rongmei and had obtained one month basic military training at Lungchai training centre of the outfit in Tamenglong district. According to police, he is working under the command of Riamei Gaichamdin Rongmei, a self-styled lieutenant of the outfit and tasked for collection of tax at NH-37 as a part of a fundraising drive of the outfit.
The joint team of security forces has handed over the apprehended cadre to Lamphel police station of Imphal West district for further investigation, police added.
