KOHIMA: Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan on Friday said that India is a diverse country united by common ideals.
The Vice President was speaking at the Nagaland University’s 8th Convocation Ceremony at the University Headquarters in Lumami, Zunheboto in Nagaland.
Radhakhrishnan then expressed immense joy at visiting Nagaland for the first time. He praised the vibrant culture and courage of the people of Nagaland, describing the state’s culture as colourful and unique.
He noted that India is a diverse country united by common ideals and encouraged the youth of Nagaland to participate in national services such as the UPSC and serve the nation. Emphasizing unity as the nation’s greatest strength, he said that a “Viksit Nagaland will contribute to a Viksit Bharat.”

The Vice President reminded the graduates that convocation is not the end of the road but the beginning of a new journey. He spoke about the rapidly changing global environment and urged young people to adapt to change in order to succeed. He advised students not to compare themselves with others, as everyone is gifted with different talents, but instead to set clear goals and move forward with purpose.
He further stressed the importance of inclusive development, respecting differences in a democratic society, and maintaining peace for progress. Referring to the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) agreement, he noted that peace and mutual respect are essential for the overall development of Nagaland. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Governor towards the development of the state and highlighted the rapid infrastructure growth taking place in the region.
The Vice President urged graduates not to forget the sacrifices of their parents and teachers who helped shape their future and encouraged them to pursue progress with purpose and dedication.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor of Nagaland and Chief Rector of the University, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, expressed his pleasure at being present for the historic occasion. He extended a warm welcome to the Vice President and congratulated the graduating students for their perseverance, discipline, and pursuit of knowledge.
Bhalla stated that convocation is not merely a ceremonial event but a celebration of hard work and determination. He said that as the only central university in the state, Nagaland University carries a special responsibility to serve as a beacon of higher learning, research, and innovation. He commended the Vice-Chancellor, faculty members, and staff for their dedication in shaping young minds.

Encouraging the graduates, the Governor said they carry not only degrees but also values such as integrity, compassion, and responsibility, and urged them to use their knowledge for the greater good of society. He also highlighted the importance of creativity, resilience, and ethical leadership in a rapidly changing world and encouraged the students to remain lifelong learners.
