Ukhrul, Feb 27: The Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) has questioned the transfer of Luikham Lanmiyo, MPS, SP i/c of Chandel within a month of appointment. Expressing discontentment on the transfer of the officer, the Naga student body has appealed to the concerned authorities for his reappointment.

“Upon the transfer of the then SP of Chandel Police, Shivanand Surve IPS, as the SP of Senapati, Luikham Lanmiyo, MPS, the then SP i/c of Tamenglong was appointed at the SP i/c of Chandel dated 8th January, 2025, both under order number No.13/5/2023-IPS/DP of the Governor of Manipur, signed by Prashant Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur. However, on 20th February, 2025, as per the Orders of the Governor of Manipur under order number No. MISCDP-1/20/2023-DP-DP (i), Luikham Lanmiyo, MPS, was transferred back to Tamenglong as SP i/c and Ms. Babitarani Swain, IPS, the SP of Tamenglong was appointed at the SP of Chandel,” NSUC said.
The student body then questioned the concerned authorities as to why such a sudden transfer or appointment was done within a month. It stated that such sudden moves reduce the credibility of the individual/officers and the concerned authorities who were responsible for arranging such transfers and appointments.

Questioning the move, the NSUC stated that it deemed Luikham Lanmiyo, MPS, as the SP i/c of Chandel as fit and well-qualified. However, it added that his sudden transfer within a month of his appointment had left the populace of Chandel, and the student body in particular, in shock.
Additionally, the body protested the transfer of the officer and appealed to the concerned authorities of Manipur to re-appoint him as the SP of Chandel, if not in-charge for peace and prosperity in the district.
“As a senior police officer, he had an understanding of the place and situation here and was beginning to gain the trust of the people. Hence, his sudden transfer has left the people in dismay and we questioned what could be the reason behind such a move,” NSUC stated.
