UKHRUL: The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD), has condemned the killing of six Naga civilians in Ningchou, Chingdong and the Makui area of Manipur on October 10, allegedly by Kuki armed groups. Three others were reportedly injured in the incidents.
In a statement issued by the union, it expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It also called for an impartial and time-bound investigation into the killings, accountability for alleged security lapses and protection for vulnerable Naga villages.
The NSUD described the reported beheading of Ajinbou Ringkangmai, whose head remains missing, and the alleged mutilation of Dibambou Ringkangmai’s body as particularly disturbing. It called for the immediate recovery of the missing remains and a dignified burial for the deceased.
The six civilians identified as killed were Ngachanso Ningshen (30) and Leishishan Hungyo (50), both from Ningchou village; Machungamang Daimai of Thanlon village; Dibambou Ringkangmai (48) and Ajinbou Ringkangmai (52), both from Makui village; and Ramningpou Gangmei (53) of Luangchum village in Tamenglong district.
The three injured persons were identified as Stephen Jajo (51), Angam Chawang of Kadi-2 and Nashon Pame of Impa village in Tousem.
The union also raised concerns over reports of houses being burnt in Makui Chamriupiu, Makui Thebram, Makui Pipuram (Saramjao) and Makui Thanamba. It called for an investigation into the alleged looting of church property and the killing or theft of livestock in the affected areas.
Expressing concern over the alleged cross-border movement of armed perpetrators from Myanmar, the NSUD questioned the effectiveness of existing border security arrangements. It urged the Union and Manipur governments to investigate the killings, prosecute those responsible and ensure the safe return and rehabilitation of displaced residents.
The union further called for an investigation into reported violations of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement and appropriate action against any group found to have breached its terms. It also urged authorities to address deliberate misinformation and inflammatory content circulating on social media through lawful and evidence-based measures.
According to the NSUD, at least 32 Nagas have been killed in Naga-Kuki violence since February. The union said its demands included the recovery of missing remains, prosecution of those responsible, accountability for security failures, protection of affected communities and action against organised disinformation.
Warning that it would pursue democratic agitation in Delhi and coordinate with Naga organisations across the country if authorities failed to take meaningful action, the NSUD appealed to the Naga people to remain united and peaceful.
The union clarified that its demand for justice was directed at those responsible for the violence and anyone found to have enabled or concealed it, rather than at any community. It reiterated its solidarity with the bereaved families and called for justice, accountability and lasting peace.
