NNN | IMPHAL, July 23: Even as the locally transmitted COVID-19 cases continued to be detected in Manipur’s Thoubal district, the total number of cases of COVID-19 in the State rose to 2,115 with detection of 55 new cases in the last 24 hours.
Official reports said that, out of the 55 new cases confirmed, 12 cases are from Thoubal district who have no travel history. The 12 locally transmitted cases are among the 31 new COVID-19 cases detected in the district during the same period. Including these new cases, the suspected locally transmitted cases in the district rose to 52.
Till Wednesday, the district which has been placed under complete lockdown since July 21 had recorded 40 locally transmitted cases. Meanwhile, 12 Army personnel from Leimakhong Army camp (Leimakhong Garrison) are also among the 55 new cases of COVID-19 detected on Thursday, the report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room said.
Manipur has 1460 recovered cases and the total number of active cases is 655. The report also said that 42 persons were discharged on Thursday after recovery.
A total of 748 samples including 163 antigen tests and 15 Truenat were tested for the virus in the State in the last 24 hours. Out of the 48 samples tested at a private diagnostic centre in Imphal East district, two were confirmed for the virus. They have been shifted to Covid care facility, the report further said.
With this update, a total of 74,614 samples have been tested for the disease in the State. Meanwhile, among the 16 districts of the State, Kangpokpi has the highest number of positive cases with 270 including Army and CRPF personnel. Tengnoupal district where only 16 cases were detected so far has the lowest number of COVID-19 infections.
Among the districts, Noney and Pherzawl have “nil active cases” as all the infected persons were discharged. It can be mentioned that Noney district recorded 25 cases of COVID-19 while Pherzawl recorded 32 cases as per the latest status update on COVID-19 of the state Health department.
